I am interested in astrology as a system that supports and enforces Torah values; I believe that the dictum ובחרת בחיים’ (דברים 30:19)’ , ‘choose Life’ may be interpreted in light of the Midrash: ‘Rabbi Simone said every herb without exception has a heavenly mazal [angelic supervisor] that strikes it and says to it: ‘Grow!’ (בראשית רבה 10:6); the herb grows and its purpose is its medicinal use for healing. All the more so, a heavenly mazal strikes each person to choose Life, to grow and live by Torah values; to receive or provide spiritual healing. The fateful events that occur to individuals and nations create an opportunity to choose a response guided by Torah values. The transits and cycles of the planets through the zodiac reflect the mandates of the heavenly mazalot to rule over the inhabitants of our mundane world. Being privy to the workings of the system of mazalot is to understand Torah through the lens of astrology.
